Karimu joined School for Life (SfL) under the Education Quality for All (EQUALL) project in 2006 and later joined main SfL in 2009. He is currently the Curriculum Development and Replication Coordinator in School for Life.
Karimu’s background includes extensive field experience and nine years as a teacher trainer. With interest in literacy development, he has been a regional trainer of trainers for Non-Formal Education Division, Northern Region of Ghana. He has experience in schedules designing, preparation of training materials, and implementing training programmes. He is also a co-writer of GTZ-ASTEP and Unimax Macmillan basic schools text books in Ghanaian Languages and Culture. He is the author of “DagbaniBohimbuSodoligu”, a published Dagbani grammar and phonology book. He has been an examiner and a team leader with the Institute of Education, University of Cape Coast. He has had the opportunity of attending international conferences in Ghana, Gambia, Rwanda and Mauritius. He was also on the team from Ghana which went to India on an educational tour with regards to the introduction of remedial education project (Teacher Community Assistant Initiative project - TCAI) in Ghana. As a tutor in the Training College, he held various positions including Head of Ghanaian Languages and Culture Department, House Master, Dining Hall Master, Resource Centre Coordinator and form master. He also taught as a subject teacher in Huriya Junior Secondary School in Wa, in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
Karimu holds a Commonwealth Executive Masters Degree in Public Administration, a Bachelor of Education Degree in Ghanaian Languages and Culture, Diploma Certificate in Ghanaian Languages and Culture and Three-year Teachers’ Certificate “A”.
